Office Winsen (Luhe)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Winsen (Luhe) office was a historical administrative area of the Principality of Lüneburg , later of the Kingdom of Hanover and the Prussian Province of Hanover . The higher administrative level was the Landdrostei Lüneburg , the official seat of the city of Winsen (Luhe) .

history

The district goes back to the castle built in Winsen (Luhe) and its accessories at the end of the 12th century. The castle Winsen was in the first half of the 14th century one of the main strongholds of the Lüneburg Dukes and was after the destruction of the castle on the Lüneburg Kalkberg (1371) administrative center for the northwest of the Principality of Lüneburg. At times it was also used as a residence and widow's residence. Because of the size of the subordinate district, the Vogt zu Winsen was referred to as the Grand Vogt (first documented in 1474). With the formation of the offices of Harburg and Moisburg as well as the monastery offices of Lüneburg and Scharnebeck , the area of responsibility of the Vogt was reduced at the beginning of the 16th century. Around 1798 the Winsen office consisted of five administrative bailiffs (Bardowick, Pattensen, Garlstorf, Amelinghausen and Bienenbüttel), the march bailiwick and the bailiwick Neuland.

After the Franco-Westphalian rule , the office was restored, but in 1852 it was divided into the three independent offices of Winsen, Pattensen and Salzhausen . The city of Winsen (Luhe) became vacant. The Bardowick Bailiwick was divided between the offices of Lüne and Artlenburg . In 1859 the three offices of Winsen, Pattensen and Salzhausen (excluding the city of Winsen) were reunited, with part of the Salzhausen office falling to the Lüne office and the Holm estate to the Tostedt office . In 1885 the Winsen office was merged with the city of Winsen (Luhe) to form the Winsen district .
