Arnold Gartmann (bobsledder)

Arnold “Noldi” Gartmann (born November 20, 1904 in St. Moritz ; † June 4, 1980 ) was a Swiss bobsleigh driver .

Gartmann attended the canton school in Chur and worked as a bank clerk. He later owned the Scala cinema in St. Moritz. In terms of sport, he was very versatile. He was a member of the national ice hockey and boxing teams , is considered the first wheel gymnast in Switzerland and founded the St. Moritz wrestling club .

Gartmann was most successful as a bobsleigh driver. At the 1935 World Championships in Igls , he finished second in the four-man bobsleigh with Pierre Musy , Charles Bouvier and Joseph Beerli . In the following year, at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he won the gold medal with the same team.

His nephew Dodi and Aby took part in international championships and Olympic Games: The Olympic Winter Games in 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo occupied Aby Gartmann in the four fourth place, 1964 in Innsbruck was Arnold Gartmann Jr ninth in luge doubles.
