Schönberg-Ost is the name of a common quarter in the statistical district 22 Bern-Schosshalde of the district IV Kirchenfeld-Schosshalde . It borders on the districts of Schönberg / Bitzius , Beundenfeld / Baumgarten , and Wyssloch . The Schosshaldenwald / Friedhof district is on the other side of Autobahn 12 .
In 2019 there were 1107 people living in the usual quarter, 948 of them Swiss and 159 foreigners.
The name Schönberg was given to an estate at Laubeggstrasse 40, the name of which refers to the hill of the "high court below". Until 1817 the gallows stood here on the highest point of the hill in the Schönberg-Gut. This location was found there during excavations in front of the new building in Schönberg-Ost. In 1943 Schönberg came to the community of Bern. In the 19th century, Schönberg was also called Lerberhübeli.
Schönberg-Ost is a new development area started in 2011 with individually standing, almost square multi-family houses of high standard. However, the quarter has also become known for construction defects.
The urban bus line 12 connects with the center.
