Manor house in Elfenau Park

The Elfenau Park is a common quarter in the statistical district 20 Brunnadern of the district IV ( Kirchenfeld-Schosshalde ). It borders on the Elfenau / Brunnadern districts and the Dählhölzli. In the west, it forms the city limits to Muri .

In 2019, 24 residents were registered in the quarter

The name Elfenau was invented by the Russian Grand Duchess Anna Feodorowna , who bought the Brunnaderngut property as a place of retreat around 1816 and had a manor house built there. This also included a "servants' house", a large barn (today the large orangery) and a carriage shed (today the small orangery with park café), which are built around a square courtyard. A farm and an estate gardening business were also part of it.

In 1918 Elfenau passed to the city of Bern, and in 1928/29 the "Betriebe Elfenau" of the city gardening company (today "Stadtgrün Bern") were established there. Today the mansion belongs to the city of Bern, where it belongs to the so-called stately community apartments. From 1970 they were rented to magistrates of the federal government, the canton or the city. In 2015, this rental guideline was formally abolished.

Elfenau is one of the most important English landscape parks in Switzerland from the early 19th century. The Great Orangery is used as a venue for exhibitions and concerts. The "servants' house" is also rented out as a residential building today.

In the valley, the Aare embankment path used for tourism leads along the Aare . As part of flood protection through renaturation, widenings with side arms were created below Elfenau. At the western end of the quarter on the Aare is the Fähribeizli restaurant with the Bodenacker ferry, where you can cross over and take the path across the river.
