Schönberg / Bitzius is the name of a common quarter in the statistical district 22 Bern-Schosshalde of the district IV Kirchenfeld-Schosshalde . It borders the Rosengarten , Beundenfeld / Baumgarten , Schönberg-Ost , Wyssloch and Schosshalde / Obstberg districts .

In 2019, 939 people lived in the usual quarter, 798 of them Swiss and 141 foreigners.

The name Schönberg was given to an estate at Laubeggstrasse 40, the name of which refers to the hill of the "high court below". Until 1817 the gallows stood here on the highest point of the hill in the Schönberg-Gut. This location was found there during excavations in front of the new building in Schönberg-Ost.

In 1943 Schönberg came to the community of Bern. In the 19th century, Schönberg was also called Lerberhübeli.

Bitzius is the name of the school house, a day school, a day care center and a street in the neighborhood, named after Albert Bitzius, a Swiss pastor and writer who became known under the pseudonym Jeremias Gotthelf (1797-1854). Bitzius worked all his life to improve the Bernese school system.

The Bitzius school building was built between 1909 and 1911 as a representative, monumental school palace. In 1927 the gym wing was built on the north side. In order to keep the school running, a necessary renovation was carried out in 5 stages from 1997 to 2001. In 2017, a new underground double gym replaced the old one. The Bizius day school has existed since 2005 and was also housed in the school house. It has had a new location since 2017.

The Schönbergpark is located north of the Haspelweg. The residential development consists of single and multi-family houses.

The city bus lines 10 and 12 connect with the center.
