In 2019, no residents were registered in the quarter.
In the south is the wooded slope of the banks of the Aare with a path along the banks that continues in the bear park . The name Schwelle comes from a weir on the Aare, which dams the Aare for the Matte power plant. In 1360 Johann von Bubenberg sold the sleeper with fishing (fishing rights), waterworks and the house of the sleeper master, who also managed an estate on the sleeper mattrain, to the city of Bern. It became a place of amusement for the Bernese. There was a restaurant in the former house of the sleeper master in the 19th century. Today there are two restaurants, one of which is a venue for events.
