Berwyn is located in the western suburbs of Chicago at 41 ° 50'33 "north latitude and 87 ° 47'24" west longitude. The city extends over an area of 10.1 km². The city of Berwyn is congruent with the Berwyn Township .

Interstate 290 runs north of Berwyn as an arterial road from Chicago to the west. South of Berwyn, Interstate 55 leads from Chicago to the southwest towards St. Louis . The US Highway 34 reaches its eastern terminus at the junction with the Illinois State Route 43 . This street also forms the western city limits of Berwyn. All other roads are inner-city connecting roads.
The BNSF Railway Line runs through Berwyn, a line of METRA , Chicago's local transport system. In the urban area of Berwyn there are three stations on the line, Lavergne , Berwyn and Harlem Avenue , which runs from downtown Chicago to Aurora .
The nearest airports are Chicago Midway International Airport (8 miles southeast) and the larger O'Hare International Airport (14 miles northwest).

In 1902, the villages were La Vergne , Swedetown , Berwyn and South Oak Park joined forces and as a Village of Berwyn incorporated . In 1908 the state of Illinois changed its parish status to "City".

According to the 2010 census , Berwyn had 56,657 people in 18,910 households. The population density was 5609.6 people per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.99 people each in the 18,910 households.
The racial the population was composed of 60.5 percent white, 6.4 percent African American, 0.6 percent Native American, 2.5 percent Asian and 26.6 percent from other ethnic groups; 3.4 percent were descended from two or more races.
