Carpino is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 4008 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Foggia in Apulia . The municipality is located about 50 kilometers northeast of Foggia in the Gargano National Park . The Lake Varano is about 5 kilometers away. Carpino is part of the Comunità Montana del Gargano .

history

The village is believed to have originated in the 11th century. The community is mentioned for the first time in 1144. The remains of the Norman castle from this period and the Romanesque church, which is dedicated to Cyril of Alexandria , are impressive .

Economy and Transport

Due to the cultivation of olives, the municipality also has the unofficial title of Città d'Olio . Strada Statale 89 Garganica runs through the municipality . There is a train station just outside the settlement towards Lago di Varano on the San Severo - Peschici railway line .

Parish partnership

Carpino has had an intra-Italian partnership with the municipality of Pizzoli in the province of L'Aquila since 2005 .
