The place belongs to the arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine and the canton of Creney-près-Troyes . The municipality is also part of the Seine et Aube municipal association founded in 2017 .

Châtres is a little south of the River Seine and about 28 kilometers north-northwest of Troyes .
