The Chrysler Pacifica is a van from the American car manufacturer Chrysler that has been available since 2016 . The vehicle is the successor to the Chrysler Voyager (RT) or Chrysler Town & Country (RT) and has nothing in common with the crossover of the same name built between 2002 and 2007 . From the end of 2019, the manufacturer wants to offer the cheaper equipment variants again under the name Chrysler Voyager .
history
In June 2013 it was announced that Chrysler was preparing to produce a successor to Town & Country in Windsor, Ontario for 2015. In 2015, Sergio Marchionne , CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles , announced that the company would be investing $ 2 billion in developing a new van and converting its manufacturing facilities.
At the North American International Auto Show in January 2016, Chrysler finally presented the series vehicle with up to eight seats. This is based on a new platform, weighs less than the previous model and is also available for the first time with a plug-in hybrid drive. The manufacturer no longer wanted to use the name Town & Country to differentiate the new model from previous model generations.
The sale of the Pacifica started in March 2016, the hybrid version followed in November 2016. The month before, the high-rise building of the FCA-US headquarters in Auburn Hills was decorated with a banner showing a side view of the vehicle and the caption " BELIEVE IT. 80 MPGe ”. Series production and deliveries of the hybrid model began in April 2017.
With the 2020 model year beginning in autumn 2019, Chrysler intends to offer the model in the L, LX and LXi equipment variants under the name Chrysler Voyager.
At the Chicago Auto Show in February 2020, Chrysler presented an extensively revised version of the Pacifica.

Furnishing
From the market launch in the 2017 model year, the Chrysler Pacifica was offered in six equipment lines: LX, Touring, Touring Plus, Touring L, Touring L Plus and Limited. In the 2018 model year, the equipment variant L was added, the equipment name Touring was omitted, the hybrid model was available in the equipment variants Touring Plus, Touring L and Limited. There were no changes in the equipment designation in the 2019 model year. Before the start of the 2020 model year, it was announced that the L and LX equipment lines would be discontinued for the Pacifica with internal combustion engine, so there are still the Touring Plus, Touring L, Touring L Plus and Limited variants . Nothing should change with the hybrid model. However, with the same body of the Pacifica, the omitted equipment variants and also the LXi variant for fleet companies as Chrysler Voyager are to be offered.
technology
Internal combustion engine
Both drive variants have a 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine from the Pentastar series. While the engine of the pure combustion engine model has a maximum output of 205 kW, that of the hybrid model is 180 kW. In the combustion engine of the hybrid model, the compression ratio was increased to 12.5: 1 by changing the pistons and the engine works with the Atkinson cycle , compared to the one for the combustion engine model, valve lift adjustment and the cooled exhaust gas recirculation system are no longer necessary .
transmission
In the variant with only one internal combustion engine, the power is transferred to a nine- speed automatic transmission (designated by Chrysler: 948TE TORQUEFLITE).
In the hybrid model, an EVT transmission with an input flange (Si-EVT, abbreviation for S ingle I nput E lectrically V ariable T ransmission, Chrysler marketing name: eFlite) is connected downstream of the combustion engine. It is 367 mm long and 649 mm wide. The main components are several planetary gear stages , a one-way clutch from BorgWarner and two integrated electric motors arranged parallel to the combustion engine . There is also a built-in auxiliary unit for supplying oil to the gear unit. An inverter and an oil cooler are attached to the outside of the gearbox housing.
Electric motors
The main electrical machine integrated in the transmission is called "Motor B" and has an output of 85 kW. The second electric machine, designated “Motor A”, has an output of 63 kW. "Motor A" is also used to start the internal combustion engine or as a generator. It is also integrated into the transmission.
Energy storage
The internal combustion engine model has a tank volume of 72 liters, while the hybrid model has 62.5 liters.
The lithium-ion battery of the plug-in hybrid model with a capacity of 16 kWh enables a purely electric range of around 53 km (33 mi ) and can be recharged on a 240 V charger within 2 hours.
landing gear
The vehicle has MacPherson struts with wishbones at the front and independent wheel suspension at the rear . The steering is a rack-and-pinion steering , has electrical power assistance and has a 16.2: 1 ratio.
safety
In the US NCAP crash test series carried out for the 2018 model year , the vehicle received an overall rating of five stars; in the “Moderate overlap front” test of the series carried out by the IIHS , it was rated “Good”.
Waymo autonomous fleet
Since 2016, Fiat Chrysler US and the then Google subsidiary Waymo have been cooperating to research technology for autonomous driving based on the Pacifica Hybrid. 2018 ordered 000 more vehicles of the type. 62
