About this picture

Waldachtal is a municipality in the Freudenstadt district of Baden-Württemberg . It belongs to the Northern Black Forest region .

geography

location

Waldachtal lies at the transition from the eastern northern Black Forest to the open landscape of the Gäus between the district town of Freudenstadt (11 km) in the west and Horb am Neckar (12 km) in the east. The Waldach , which starts near the southern border of the municipality as Schneckenbächle and flows through Waldachtal in a northerly direction, develops in its course into the most important Nagold tributary.

Community structure

The municipality of Waldachtal consists of the five districts of Cresbach (932 inhabitants on December 31, 2016), Hörschweiler (646 inhabitants), Lützenhardt (1597 inhabitants), Salzstetten (1783 inhabitants) and Tumlingen (1012 inhabitants). The district of Cresbach includes the village of the same name and the hamlets of Oberwaldach, Unterwaldach and Vesperweiler with mill and Burgweiler Vörbach. The districts of Hörschweiler and Lützenhardt consist only of the villages of the same name. In addition to the village of Salzstetten, the hamlet of Heiligenbronn and the villages of Getreidemühle, Missihof and Sägemühle belong to the district of Salzstetten . In addition to the village, the Tumlingen district includes the Lützenhardter Mühle houses.

The five districts also form localities within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code, each with its own local council and a local mayor as its chairman.

history

The current municipality of Waldachtal was in Roman times in the Agri decumates . After the conquest of the Alamanni , the area came under the influence of the Frankish Empire in the 6th century and belonged to the Duchy of Swabia in the High Middle Ages .

Old Württemberg places

The town of Tumlingen, which arose in the time of the Alemanni, was first mentioned as Villa Tungelingen 782. The occasion was a donation of the property by the noble Isenhard to the Lorch monastery . At that time Tumlingen was in Nagoldgau . In the High Middle Ages, Cresbach was the seat of a Roman Catholic deanery under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Constance . As places belonging to Altwürttemberg , Cresbach and Ober- and Unterwaldach were part of the Duchy of Württemberg from 1625 and belonged to the Altensteig office. Hörschweiler and Tumlingen had also become part of Württemberg in 1625 and belonged to the Dornstetten office. After the establishment of the Kingdom of Württemberg , these localities became part of the Freudenstadt Regional Office . During the district reform during the Nazi era in Württemberg , they came to the Freudenstadt district in 1938.

Lützenhardt

In the High Middle Ages, the climatic health resort of Lützenhardt belonged as a court to the Count Palatine of Tübingen and then to the Counts of Hohenberg , through whom the court came to the Habsburgs . These gave the place successively to various noble houses, of which the lords of Neuneck were the longest from 1500 to 1621 as well as the barons Keller von Schleitheim from 1694 and the imperial barons Rassler von Gamerschwang on the Weitenburg were the respective landlords from 1750 . In 1785 the Freiherr von Raßler allowed the settlement of people from the traveling people (" Yeniche "). These were mainly basket weavers and brush and broom binders. Until the fall of the Holy Roman Empire , Lützenhardt belonged to the Upper Austrian Office of Horb. In 1805, in the course of mediatization , the place fell to the Electorate or, from 1806, the Kingdom of Württemberg, and after a brief interlude at the Oberamt Sulz in 1807 it was allocated to the newly founded Oberamt Horb . During the district reform in 1938, Lützenhardt came to the Freudenstadt district.

Salzstetten

Founded in the early Middle Ages at the time of the Merovingians, Salzstetten was the seat of a noble family in the High Middle Ages. At that time there was the Tockenburg on site, but it has completely disappeared. The subsequent landlords in the area came from various noble families who gradually gave the landlord to the hospital in Horb. The state sovereignty over Salzstetten was with Vorderösterreich until mediatization . In 1805, Salzstetten became part of Württemberg and subordinated to the Horb Office . In 1938 Salzstetten became part of the Horb district , to which it belonged until the end of 1972.

Waldachtal

Today's municipal area fell into the French occupation zone after the Second World War and fell to the state of Württemberg-Hohenzollern . From 1952 the area belonged to the administrative district of Südwürttemberg-Hohenzollern within the new federal state of Baden-Württemberg. Tumlingen became known nationwide through the rise of the fishermen's works in the post-war period.

As part of the regional reform , the previously independent communities of Cresbach, Hörschweiler, Lützenhardt, Salzstetten and Tumlingen merged on July 1, 1974 to form the new community of Waldachtal.

While Salzstetten still belonged to the district of Horb until 1972 , the other founding communities were already in the district of Freudenstadt before the district reform in Baden-Württemberg , which is subordinate to the administrative district of Karlsruhe from 1973 .

religion

Evangelical denomination

The Protestant parishes in Cresbach, Hörschweiler and Tumlingen belong to the Waldachtal parish of the Evangelical State Church in Württemberg . The Protestant rectory and the main church are located in Tumlingen. Today's Protestant church building in Tumlingen was built in 1929 to replace an older building. The Protestant church in Cresbach was built in 1868 in place of the previous building.

Catholics

Lützenhardt and Salzstetten have always been predominantly Catholic as places that used to belong to Upper Austria. In Salzstetten there was verifiably a parish church since 1275, which was also responsible for Lützenhardt until 1820. The name St. Agatha has been handed down as a patronage since 1400 . The late Gothic parish church in Salzstetten was replaced by a neo-Gothic church in 1894. In the hamlet of Heiligenbronn, which belongs to Salzstetten, there is a branch church, the pilgrimage church of Our Lady of Sorrows , which was built in 1747. The Catholic Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Lützenhardt was established between 1903 and 1904. The Catholic parishes of Waldachtal belong to a pastoral care unit in the Freudenstadt dean's office .

language

The Yenish is a regional sociolect from the peddler trade in Lützenhardt, which is one of the dialects of the Rotwelschen . It serves the brush dealers as a secret language and has shaped the vocabulary of the local colloquial language. Josef Ludwig Blum from Lützenhardt wrote from a Russian captivity:

"Your husband greets you very warmly, greetings to Schofel and Bock. So once again good luck to see you again soon in your beautiful homeland. Many greetings to mother u. Siblings and yours. "

The censors found no complaints and assumed that Messrs Bock and Schofel actually existed. But the two words Schofel (“bad”) and Bock (“hunger”) are enough to counteract the previous content of the card. The central statement, written in Jenisch, is embedded in the German text, namely that the prisoners are doing badly and are starving.
