The Delage Type R and the Delage Type R 3 and Delage Type R 4 variants were early passenger car models from the French brand Delage .
description
The national approval authority tested the Type R with the number 899 and the engine number 2002 and granted the approval on October 29, 1909. The type R 4 with the number 4546 and engine number 4537 was registered on July 10, 1913. At that time the Type R was renamed to Type R 3 . Delage offered the Type R from 1910 to 1913, the Type R 3 only in 1913 and the Type R 4 from 1913 to 1915. The predecessor was the Delage Type M , the successor was the Delage Type AM .
A four-cylinder engine from Établissements Ballot powered the vehicles. It had a 65 mm bore and 110 mm stroke . This resulted in a displacement of 1460 cm³ . The engine developed 14 hp . The vehicle was classified as Type R and Type R 3 with 10 Cheval fiscal , while Type R 4 was classified as 9 CV. The reason is likely to be a new way of calculating the tax PS, which came into force on December 12, 1912.
The type R 4 had a type 4 G 3 engine and a four-speed gearbox, the others a 4 G 1 and a three-speed gearbox.
The chassis had a track width of 1200 mm and initially 2470 to 2520 mm wheelbase . For the type R 4 only 2520 mm wheelbase has been handed down. The choice was between touring cars and the Phaeton .
Numbers of units and surviving vehicles
Peter Jacobs from the Delage Register of Great Britain compiled an overview of production figures and the number of vehicles that still exist in October 2006. His information on the construction times differ in some cases from the information given by the book authors. Numbers of the models before the First World War are unknown. For this model he confirms the construction time. 39 vehicles still exist.
