The Delage Type DI was a series of passenger cars from the French brand Delage . In addition to the Delage Type DI, it also included the sport versions Delage Type DIS and Delage Type DISS .

On August 2, 1923, the national registration authority approved the vehicle of the normal version with the number 12.226. The other variants have not been type-tested separately. Delage offered the model from 1923 to 1927. The two sports versions were available from May 1924 to July 1927. The predecessor was the Delage Type DE . The successor was the Delage Type DR series .

A four-cylinder engine powered the vehicles. It had a 75 mm bore and 120 mm stroke . That resulted in a displacement of 2121 cm³ , corresponding to 11  Cheval fiscal . The engine produced either 30 or 36 hp in the basic version and 50 hp in the sport versions  .

The chassis had a track width of 1320 mm and a wheelbase of 3180 mm in the basic version. In the sports versions, the wheelbase was 2980 mm. There was also a Colonial version , which had a track width of 1420 mm. A source states 4200 mm in length and 1650 mm in width, but not for which version this applied.

Touring cars with four seats, sedans with four doors, coupé , landaulet , Phaeton and roadster are known bodies . The curb weight of the torpedo is 1385 kg . The chassis weighed 1100 kg.

Races

Chauchat de Benneville fielded a Type DIS on March 17, 1929 at the hill climb at Le Camp near Marseille . He came 4th.

Numbers of units and surviving vehicles

Peter Jacobs from the Delage Register of Great Britain compiled an overview of production figures and the number of vehicles that still exist in October 2006. His information on the construction times differ in some cases from the information given by the book authors. For this model series he confirms the construction period from 1923 to 1927. A total of 10,709 vehicles were built. Of these, 9284 were Type DI , 442 Colonial , 202 Type DIS and 781 Type DISS . There are still 173 Type DI , 20 Colonial , 20 Type DIS and 35 Type DISS .

Auctions

On February 6, 2014, Bonhams auctioned a convertible with a Brigden & Co body from 1926 with the British registration number YP 7589 for 40,700 euros .

Bonhams also achieved 32,200 euros a year later for a vehicle from 1926 that was given a new body in the 1970s.

In September 2016, Bonhams again auctioned a vehicle from 1925, originally with a limousine body and now carrying a body as a torpedo in the style of Carrosserie Kelsch , for 35,751 euros.

Brightwells offered a 1927 vehicle with the British registration number SV 7292 in April 2017 . It is referred to as both Type DIS and Colonial . The touring car body comes from Phizackerley from Australia . This original vehicle brought in £ 45,000 .

In June 2017, Osenat auctioned a touring car from 1923 for 36,000 euros.

In February 2018, Artcurial fetched 27,416 euros for a 1925 vehicle with a non-original roadster body.

Dorset Vintage & Classic Auctions offered the vehicle with the British registration number YV 2754 in March 2018 . Originally it was a Type DIS as a sedan. Around 1946 it received an open body. An engine from the Austin A70 was assembled in the 1950s . The hammer price was £ 15,950.

In April 2019 Bonhams auctioned a touring car with a body by Kelsch from 1927 for 56,937 euros.

In June 2019, Osenat offered a vehicle that had been converted into a pick-up and reached 8,640 euros.
