The Delage Type GL was a series of passenger cars from the French brand Delage . In addition to the basic type, the Delage Type GL S and the Delage Type GL GS were included.

description

Two models were presented to the national licensing authority for testing. The vehicle with the number 13.224 and engine number 1 was approved on February 7, 1924, and the more powerful vehicle with number 13.061 and engine number 2 on March 1, 1924. Delage offered the model from 1924 to 1926. The predecessor was the Delage Type CO . The Delage Type GN was to be the successor, although it remained a prototype .

A six-cylinder engine powered the vehicles. It had a 95 mm bore and 140 mm stroke . This resulted in a displacement of 5954 cm³ . The normal version and the sports version Type GL S were rated 30  Cheval fiscal . Their engine made 100  hp . The type GL GS for Grand Sport was rated at 36 CV, while the engine developed 130 hp.

The chassis was available in different dimensions. For the weaker versions, the following applies: 1400 mm or 1480 mm track width and 3400 or 3620 or 3850 mm wheelbase . The type GL GS had a track width of 1340 mm and a wheelbase of 3300 mm. With regard to the superstructure, only touring cars and coupés have survived.

Motorsport variant Sprint II

Based on a GL GS which was created Sprint II as the successor of Delage Type DF Sprint I . Charles Planchon had redesigned the engine. It was rated at 32 CV and developed 184 hp. The chassis had a track width of 1420 mm at the front and 1380 mm at the rear. The wheelbase was 2800 mm. The licensing authority granted the approval as GL GS Type Aviation . Albert Divo drove the vehicle in the 1925 hill climb on Mont Ventoux . Robert Benoist used it in La Turbie on March 25, 1925 . Only one vehicle was made. It was destroyed in Phoenix Park in 1935 .

Numbers of units and surviving vehicles

Peter Jacobs from the Delage Register of Great Britain compiled an overview of production figures and the number of vehicles that still exist in October 2006. His information on the construction times differ in some cases from the information given by the book authors. For this model, he confirms the construction period from 1924 to 1926. Of the 180 type GLs that were produced, six still exist and one of the presumably 20 type GL Ss produced .
