The Delage Type D.6.70 was a car model of the French brand Delage . There are also the notations Delage Type D6.70 and Delage Type D6-70 . The 70 was the engine power in hp for the normal version. For similarly named models see Delage Type D.6 .

description

The national registration authority tested the vehicle with the number 50.028 and granted its approval on November 12, 1935. The upgraded version was registered on January 23, 1936 after the vehicle with the number 50,546 had been tested. Delage offered the model from 1935 to 1938. The predecessor was the Delage Type D.6.80 . The successor was the Delage Type D.6.75 .

A six-cylinder engine powered the vehicles. It had an 80 mm bore and 90.5 mm stroke . That resulted in a displacement of 2729 cm³ and 16  Cheval fiscal . The engine developed 70 hp in the normal version and 78 hp in the more powerful version.

The chassis had a track width of 1460 mm and a wheelbase of either 3150 mm or 3300 mm . The dimensions corresponded to the weaker Delage Type D.6.60 . The vehicles were 1720 mm wide. They weighed between 1440 kg and 1580 kg.

The vehicles had hydraulic brakes. The originally planned version with cable-operated brakes was not approved by the approval authorities on October 7, 1935.

Bodies have survived as two- and four-door sedans , Pullman sedans , coupes , convertibles , convertibles , roadsters , touring cars and coupes de ville . According to a source, there was a roadster with a body from the Citroën Traction Avant . The D.6.70 sold in Great Britain often had bodies from the British manufacturer Coachcraft , which were stylistically based on designs by Chapron .

Races

Louis Gérard at the Tourist Trophy

In the spring of 1936 it was decided to build a vehicle for the 1936 Le Mans 24-hour race . It was a coupe. The engine was enlarged to 3 liters. However, the race was canceled.

Louis Gérard bought the racing car . He used it together with his cousin Jacques de Valence in the 1937 Le Mans 24-hour race . They reached fourth place in the overall standings and won the class up to 3 liters.

Also in 1937 two vehicles were used in the Monte Carlo Rally .

Gérard's closed racing car was converted into an open two-seater, with the front fenders also steering. This made the vehicle lighter. Gérard and Georges Monneret started with the RAC Tourist Trophy 1938 and won.

Numbers of units and surviving vehicles

Peter Jacobs from the Delage Register of Great Britain compiled an overview of production figures and the number of vehicles that still exist in October 2006. His information on the construction times differ in some cases from the information given by the book authors. Numbers of the models after the takeover by Automobiles Delahaye are unknown. For this model he confirms the construction period from 1935 to 1938. 84 vehicles still exist.

Auctions

A so-called Milord Cabriolet by Figoni & Falaschi from 1936 was auctioned in January 2014 for 544,500 US dollars .

In February 2014 achieved a 1937 Coach of Letourneur et Marchand 75,096 euros .

An ordinary Autobineau limousine fetched 19,550 euros at an auction at Dorotheum in June 2018 .

In March 2019, Bonhams was unable to auction a Figoni & Falaschi convertible with an estimate of 450,000 to 540,000 euros.

A Coupé de Ville from 1938, which had been in the Aalholm Museum for a long time , was not auctioned in April 2019 at an estimate of 32,000 to 40,000 euros, but in September 2019 for 29,042 euros.

A 1937 Letourneur et Marchand convertible fetched an auction price of $ 368,000 in August 2019.
