The Delage Type D.8.120 and the derived version Delage Type D.8.120 S were passenger car models from the French brand Delage . There is also the notation Delage Type D8.120 . The meaning of the 120 is unclear. For similarly named models see Delage Type D.8 .

description

The national registration authority tested the vehicle with the number 50.774 and granted approval on August 7, 1936. In addition, the vehicle with the number 51.620 of version S was tested and registered on November 8, 1937. It is unclear whether S stood for sport. The S followed the normal version in time. Delage offered the first model from 1936 to 1937 and the S from 1938 to 1939. The predecessor was the Delage Type D.8 . There was no successor.

An eight-cylinder engine powered the vehicles. He had initially 80 mm bore and 107 mm stroke . This resulted in a displacement of 4303 cm³ , a classification of 24  Cheval fiscal and 105  hp . The second version had 84 mm bore, thus 4744 cm³ displacement, 27 CV and 120 HP. The motor data largely corresponds to the Delage Type D.8.100 .

The chassis initially had a track width of 1500 mm and the S 1490 mm . The wheelbase was 3350 mm. The vehicles were 1760 mm wide. They weighed between 1730 kg and 1850 kg. Sedans with two and four doors, coupé , cabriolet and roadster are known bodies .

Races

Two vehicles were prepared at the factory for the Monte Carlo Rally in 1938. They were given particularly light bodies. But only one vehicle was used. The team Alin and Marcel Lesurque started in Athens . They reached rank 50.

Numbers of units and surviving vehicles

Peter Jacobs from the Delage Register of Great Britain compiled an overview of production figures and the number of vehicles that still exist in October 2006. His information on the construction times differ in some cases from the information given by the book authors. Numbers of the models after the takeover by Automobiles Delahaye are unknown. For the type D.8.120 , he gives the construction period from 1936 to 1939 and 38 existing vehicles. For the Type D.8.120 S he confirms 1938 to 1939 and names seven surviving vehicles.

Auctions

Gooding & Company auctioned a 1937 convertible from Ateliers Henri Chapron for $ 770,000 in August 2013 .

On February 9, 2018, Artcurial achieved 536,400 euros for a comparable 1938 vehicle.

Bonhams offered another Chapron Cabriolet from 1937 on February 7, 2019, expected a price of 650,000 to 750,000 euros, but was unable to auction the vehicle.
