1998/99 season - entry into the quarter-finals and withdrawal from the DEL
This season, the eight best-placed teams, including EV Landshut, qualified for the play-offs in a preliminary round with 52 games per team. After the season, the Landshut DEL license was sold to the Anschutz Entertainment Group . This moved the corporation to Munich and let the new club compete as Munich Barons . For EV Landshut this meant a new start in the league for the following season.

In contrast to the previous season, the Oberliga was played as a single-track league. The clubs that took places 1 to 8 after the double round played the promotion play-offs. The first-placed EV Landshut decided the final against the Dresdner Eislöwen for themselves and could also win the Oberliga championship, which is irrelevant for the sporting promotion, against the second final winner ESV Kaufbeuren with 9: 3 and 8: 7.
