Edmond Augustus "Ed" Edmondson (born April 7, 1919 in Muskogee , Oklahoma , † December 8, 1990 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1953 and 1973 he represented the 2nd Congressional Constituency of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ed Edmondson was the older brother of J. Howard Edmondson . He was governor of Oklahoma and represented the state in the US Senate . Ed Edmondson attended his homeland public schools and graduated from Muskogee Junior College in 1938 . He then studied at the University of Oklahoma until 1940 .

Between 1940 and 1943 he served as a special investigator for the FBI before serving in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II . Until 1970 he was a member of the Navy Reserve. After the war, Edmondson studied law at Georgetown University in Washington until 1947 . In the same year he was admitted to the bar. He then became a district attorney in Muskogee County .

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1968 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention . In 1952 Edmondson was elected to the US House of Representatives in the Second District of Oklahoma. After a total of nine re-elections, he was able to complete ten terms in Congress between January 3, 1953 and January 3, 1973 . In 1972 he did not run for re-election. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate that year and 1974. In 1978 he failed in his party's primary election when trying to be nominated for the Senate election. After that he never ran again for political office.

Ed Edmondson had five children with his wife June. The son James became a Justice of the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, his younger brother Drew became Attorney General of Oklahoma. Ed Edmondson died in 1990.
