FIFA Ballon d'Or 2013
The 58th Ballon d'Or ( French for Golden Ball ) was awarded for the fourth time in 2013 by France Football magazine and the world football association FIFA under the name FIFA Ballon d'Or . Due to the low turnout, the deadline for voting was extended from November 14th to November 29th, 2013, so that the performance in the relegation games of the qualification for the soccer World Cup could also be taken into account. FIFA Media Director Walter de Gregorio assured, however, that the unusual procedure only drove the voter turnout to a “solid” 88 percent and that Cristiano Ronaldo would have been the winner even before that. This was confirmed by the auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers , which supervised the election process.
After the three best players had already been published in December 2013 - still without their respective placement on the “podium” - the final results were announced on January 13, 2014 at FIFA headquarters in Zurich . The winner of the 2013 Ballon d'Or was Cristiano Ronaldo . The Portuguese collected 1,365 points in the vote, relegating Lionel Messi (1,205 points) and Franck Ribéry (1,127) to second and third place.
Voting mode
The prize was awarded by a jury made up of 184 national coaches, 184 national team captains and 173 specialist journalists. These awarded five, three or one point to three players from a list jointly set by the France Football editorial team and FIFA. The performance of the players should be recognized throughout the respective calendar year. Since the three groups of voters have different numbers of voters, but the votes of these three "electoral colleges" should each account for exactly one third of the total result, the absolute scores were then converted into percentages and published in this way.
