The rock castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle at 1060 m above sea level. M. above the community of Kandergrund in the canton of Bern . Built at the end of the 12th century, the castle was used to control the Lötschenpass . It stands near the Tellenburg and the Mülenen castle ruins .
history
The origins of the building are unknown. The castle was first mentioned in documents in 1339 when the Bishop of Sion handed over the rock castle and the surrounding area as a fief to the Barons vom Turn. In 1400, Bern acquired the entire Frutig Valley , made the Tellenburg the seat of the Bernese bailiff and let the neighboring rock castle fall to pieces.
