International Film Festival Oldenburg
The Internationale Filmfest Oldenburg (Oldenburg International Film Festival) is a German festival for independent film productions. It has been held annually over five days in the second week of September in Oldenburg since 1994 . The focus of the festival is on German and American productions, which make up more than half of the program. Around 50 films and around 20 short films will be shown. There are also special series, tributes and retrospectives in honor of exceptional filmmakers and actors on the program.
In 2015 the festival was voted one of the “25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World” by MovieMaker Magazine.

The Oldenburg International Film Festival was founded in 1994 by Torsten Neumann and Thorsten Ritter with the aim of establishing an unconventional and innovative festival. In 1998 Thorsten Ritter left the festival; since then Torsten Neumann has been managing the festival as festival director and program manager in one.
The main sponsor of the festival is the Oldenburgische Landesbank , the premium sponsor is EWE AG . The main sponsors of the festival are nordmedia - Die Mediengesellschaft Niedersachsen / Bremen mbH and the city of Oldenburg .

Otto Sprenger Prize
In 2007 and 2008 the Otto Sprenger Prize for the best film by a young North German filmmaker was awarded at the Oldenburg International Film Festival. In 2007 it went to the film For the Unknown Dog by the brothers Benjamin Reding and Dominik Reding and in 2008 to Emily Atef for the film The Stranger in Me .

The award for outstanding acting performance was presented for the first time in 2012.
