The Gmina Reszel ( [ˈrɛʃɛl] ? / I ) is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Kętrzyński of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . Your seat is the small town of the same name ( German Rößel ) with about 4500 inhabitants. Audio file / audio sample  

geography

The municipality is located in the middle of the voivodeship in the historical Warmia , which was annexed by Prussia in 1772 . Their neighboring communities are in the powiat Kętrzyński Korsze in the north and Kętrzyn in the east, in the powiat Mrągowski Mrągowo and Sorkwity in the south, in the powiat Olsztyński Kolno in the west and in the powiat Bartoszycki the municipality Bisztynek in the north-west.

The municipal area of ​​178.7 km² is used 71 percent for agriculture and 14 percent for forestry. There are several lakes in the south. The Sajna (Zaine) belongs to the flowing waters .

history

The urban and rural community of Reszel were merged to form the urban and rural community in 1990/1991. From 1946 to 1998, their area belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship with varying degrees. In 1999 the municipality came to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and Powiat Kętrzyński.

The municipality is connected to the road traffic by four voivodship roads (DW). The DW590 (former Reichsstrasse 141 ) runs from Barciany (Barten) via Korsze (Korschen) and Reszel to Biskupiec (Bischofsburg) in a north-south direction . The DW 594 runs in a west-east direction from Bisztynek (Bischofstein) via Reszel and Święta Lipka (Heiligelinde) to Kętrzyn (Rastenburg) . The DW596 leads from Biskupiec to the DW590 and DW594 at Reszel. The DW 593 leads from Dobre Miasto (Guttstadt) and Jeziorany (Seeburg) to the DW596 near Reszel.

The nearest international airport is Gdansk . The Olsztyn-Mazury regional airport has existed near the district town since 2016 . Depending on the border regulations, Kaliningrad Airport is another option for locals.

After the closure of passenger traffic in 1989 and goods traffic in 1995, the railway line was closed and dismantled in 2006.
