Grant County is a county in the state of West Virginia in the United States . The county seat is Petersburg .

The county is located in northeast West Virginia, borders Maryland to the northwest and has an area of ​​1,244 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Mineral Counties , Hardy Counties , Pendleton Counties , Tucker Counties , and Garrett Counties , Maryland.

history

Grant County was formed on February 14, 1866 from parts of Hardy County. It was named after Ulysses S. Grant , Commander in Chief of the Union Armies in the American Civil War and 18th President of the United States.
