history

The area around Greuth was already settled in prehistoric times. Evidence of this early settlement activity are four burial mounds north and northwest of Greuth.

In 1303 the place was first mentioned in the Würzburger Lehenbuch as "Gerüte". The place name means the cleared (area) . The place was created in the 10th or 11th century during the colonization of Würzburg . The aim was probably the supervision and administration of a wild forest in Würzburg , which was located on the border of the Bamberg diocese . In the fief book it is noted that the ministerials from Naisdorf (later Truchseß von Pommersfelden ) received the tithe of the place as a fief . After several changes, this fief came to the Schlüsselau Monastery , which was confirmed by the Bamberg bishop in 1333. Greuth was an "unframed manor", a noble property without a house, to which some pond and tree-felling rights belonged. Originally belonging to the parish of Schnaid, the place was assigned to the newly formed parish of Zentbechhofen in 1455, which was then still called Linhardsbechhofen. In the 16th century owned by the Seckendorffs , Greuth passed to Ursula von Eyb , a daughter of Sigmund von Seckendorff, in 1601 . In 1692 a brick factory was built in Greuth. A chapel was first mentioned in 1710, and in 1885 it was expanded and restored. In 1723 the Counts von Schönborn acquired the former manor from the heirs of the Bamberg cathedral dean Reinhard Anton von Eyb for 6,883 guilders.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 17 properties in Greuth (11 estates, 2 semi-estates, 2 Sölden , blacksmiths) and a community shepherd's house . The high court was exercised by the Bamberg center Bechhofen . The village and community rulership as well as the land rulership over all properties was held by the Schönborn rule in Pommersfelden . At that time, the Greuther citizens had a lumber justice at the princely wind forest.

In 1802 Greuth came to the new Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict , the place was assigned to the Zentbechhofen tax district formed in 1808 . With the second community edict (1818) the rural community Greuth was formed, to which Förtschwind belonged. In administration and jurisdiction it was subordinate to the regional court of Höchstadt and in financial administration to the Rent Office of Höchstadt . In voluntary jurisdiction and the local police, the place was subject to the Pommersfelden Patrimonial Court until 1848 . From 1862 Greuth was administered by the district office of Höchstadt an der Aisch (renamed the district of Höchstadt an der Aisch in 1938 ) and continued by the Rentamt Höchstadt (1920–1929: tax office Höchstadt , from 1929: tax office Forchheim ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court of Höchstadt until 1879, 1880–1959 district court of Höchstadt , from 1959 district court of Forchheim . The municipality had an area of 5.082 km².

On January 1, 1972, Greuth was incorporated into the town of Höchstadt an der Aisch as part of the regional reform . Today Greuth presents itself as a handsome place with a beautiful, grown core and stately new buildings on the outskirts.
