history
Rickenbach and its districts can look back on a settlement history that mostly goes back to the second half of the 13th century.
The place Rickenbach was first mentioned in 1257 and developed into one of the most important places in the southwestern Hotzenwald. As a pastor , Rickenbach was the center of an extensive parish . Until the establishment of the state of Baden in 1805, the place belonged to the county of Hauenstein as a place of unification and court .
Altenschwand emerged as a scattered settlement and was first mentioned in a document around 1300. With its hamlet Glashütten it is one of the oldest glassmaking settlements in the Black Forest.
The Bergalingen district was probably settled as early as the Neolithic . The present village has its origins in the 13th century.
The first documentary references to the settlements of Hütten and Rüttehof, which emerged from individual farms, date from the same time , whereby Hütten was an independent municipality until 1973.
A first reference to Hottingen can only be found in 1416.
To Willaringen count with the scattered settlements Egg, Jungholz, Schweikhof, Wieladingen and Wick Arts mill a number of quite different hamlets. Wieladingen, Schweikhof, Egg and Jungholz are the oldest documented settlements in the area. They emerged as clearing settlements of the monastery in Säckingen between the 8th and 10th centuries . Until the 14th century, the localities were administered by the knights of Wieladingen at the local castle . After the knight dynasty became impoverished and left the region, Willaringen came to the unification of Rickenbach with its hamlets .

Today's municipality was re-formed in the course of the municipal reform on January 1, 1975 by the union of the municipalities of Rickenbach, Bergalingen and Willaringen. Also on January 1, 1975, the previously independent municipality of Hottingen was incorporated into Rickenbach. Already on January 1, 1973, Altenschwand and Hütten were incorporated.

mayor
From 1983 to April 2007 the CDU member Georg Keller was mayor . Keller has been President of the Black Forest Association since 2013 . Norbert Moosmann had been in office since May 1, 2007. However, there were frequent tensions between him and the local council. Since the summer of 2010, Moosmann was on sick leave for a few days due to accidents recognized by the Waldshut District Office. On March 1, 2012, the district office retired the mayor due to incapacity, which Moosmann accepted. In November 2012 he was convicted by the Waldshut-Tiengen district court of having faked an arson attack on themselves together with his partner. Neither the regional court nor the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) found a motive. Mr. Moosmann denies having committed the offense and tries by all legal means to get the proceedings to be resumed (StGB § 359). On March 17, 2013 Dietmar zapernick was elected as the new mayor with 50.05% of the valid votes cast. However, due to a complaint by a citizen because he was not admitted as a candidate for mayor, he was unable to take up the post and was therefore provisionally appointed administrator . After 552 days, the Administrative Court of Baden-Württemberg ended the legal dispute with a resolution of October 14, 2014 and declared zapernick the lawful mayor.
