With the handball GDR league of men in the 1961/62 season , the title holders in indoor and field handball were carried out. In both competitions, point games were initially played in two seasons, in the hall with 16 teams on the field with 20 teams. Then the season winners determined the champions in a final. Final hall

SC Dynamo Berlin - SC DHfK Leipzig 11:21

The DHfK team started explosively and set an enormous pace. After just three minutes, the Leipzig team led 3-0 without making a mistake. Your goalkeeper hadn't even had to intervene until then. To the same extent as the DHfK attackers chased the opponent, so did the defenders with physical and running use of the dynamo players. With imaginative speed attacks, a 12: 4 lead was worked out by the 19th minute. The first half ended with 15: 4 for DHfK to the applause of the audience. Even after the break, the Berliners couldn't get the game under control. Their weak point was the defense, they made capital mistakes, the opposing players were not covered closely enough. So Kalderasch, Hölke and Co. could choose the gaps that were pushed into with steep passes. The Berliners tried in vain with long throws from Naumann and Senger, and their Torgarant Hirsch was out with a hand injury after just 17 minutes. At the end of the day, Dynamo could only be certified to have helped shape the game correctly and fairly and never gave it up.

Endgame field

(October 14, 1962)

ASK Vorwärts Berlin - SC Lok Leipzig 18:17 (12:12, 6: 5) n.V.

It was a game between two equally strong opponents who neutralized each other. It was not a good-class game, but a dramatic one. The defense of the Berliners was well adjusted to the dribbling strong Leipzig attackers and preferred the passive cover variant. This initially brought success, as the locomotive players did without long throws. On the other hand, the Leipzig cover was also secure, against which the ASK attackers initially found no means. The encounter lacked momentum and speed throughout the first half, and no team was able to prevail decisively. The spectators saw slight advantages at SC Lok, where Kretzschmar, supported by Lantzsch and Kauerauf, carefully directed the game. When the ASK freed themselves from tactical constraints in the second half of the game, the game changed. Within a few minutes, a 5: 6 residue was converted into a 7: 6 lead. After that, the game rocked back and forth, both teams now went fully on the offensive. But neither side managed to shoot out a bigger lead, the lead changed constantly. In the last minute of the game, the drama reached its climax when the Leipzig Kretzschmar scored the 12:12 equalizer in the last second. The extension initially saw the ASK at an advantage again, he shot out a 15:12 lead. But within five minutes the Leipzigers equalized again. In the second half of the extra time, the Berlin team pulled away again at 18:15, after which the SC Lok came back up to 17:18. Even in the final seconds, the Leipzig had the advantage of the majority after the Berlin Haberhauffe was sent off. However, the time for rebalancing was too short.

Berlin: Schulze - Herbert Liedtke, Obermeyer; Lieske, Manfred Krost, Waldemar Pappusch (1); Michalk (1), Klaus Hebler (5). Klaus Müller (4), Gruber (2), Hans Haberhauffe (5)

Leipzig: Dieter Weide - Winkler, Neuenhagen; Zschernitz, Horst Seifert, Ziegenhagen; Kauerauf (3), Zander (1), Pahlitzsch (1), Peter Kretzschmar (8), Lantzsch (4)
