Herkenrath is a district of the municipality of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid in the Rhein-Sieg district .

location

Herkenrath is located at the upper end of the Wahnbachtalsperre in the Bergisches Land . Neighboring towns are Krahwinkel in the west, Heister in the north and Bruchhausen in the south.

history

In 1830 the hamlet of Herkenroth had 90 inhabitants. In 1845 the village had 120 inhabitants in 24 houses, 94 Catholic and 26 Protestant. In 1888 there were 96 residents in 21 houses.

In 1901 Herkenrath had 79 inhabitants. The families August Bergfelder, widow Johann Peter Bergfelder, Wilhelm Bergfelder, Wimar Kissel, Michael Meier, Johann Miebach, Franz Nüchel, Heinrich Wilhelm Peters, Peter Josef Reifferscheid, JH Schöneshöfer and Peter Wingen are listed. With the exception of the timber merchant Nüchel, all were farmers .

The village belonged to Neunkirchen until 1969 .
