The Heuberg is 901  m above sea level. A. high ridge in the north of the Austrian state of Salzburg . It extends as a landscape on its northeastern edge into the city of Salzburg . Most of the once independent small community of Heuberg is now part of the Koppl community . Other parts of the ridge belong to Hallwang , Eugendorf and Plainfeld .

The wooded hilltop extends north of the old Gnigl settlement to the east, on its northern edge lies Esch-Mayrwies, which belongs to Hallwang, in whose municipality the highest point of the Heuberg is located exactly on the border with Koppl. The ridge forms the northern edge of the Alps and runs east as Petersberg to the Eugendorf area around Gottsreut (Hochgottsreit) ( Sommeregg 831  m above sea level ), from where the ridge over Eugendorfer Berg ( 800  m above sea level ) and Schwaighofenberg runs to Oberplainfeld . From there, the ridge of the Alps stretches across the Enzersberg valley watershed northwest to the Flysch ridge of the Kolomannsberg .

The northern edge of the Heuberg is formed by the valley of the Söllheimer Bach and Schernbach , in which the B 1 ( Wiener Straße ) and the A 1 ( Westautobahn ) run. In the south the mountain is bounded by the Alterbach valley with the B 158 ( Wolfgangsee Straße ), in the southeast by the Plainfelder Bach .

Heuberg village and viewpoints

The village of Heuberg itself is a scattered settlement on the southern edge of the ridge, above Plainfeld and the so-called Radauerkurve of the B 158. Today it is mainly formed by the Coupler Gruberfeldsiedlung  ⊙ .

The Heuberg is best known as a mountain with a view of the city and the Berchtesgaden Alps opposite and the expanses of the Alpine foothills . Geologically, the Heuberg belongs to the rhenodanubian flysch zone , more precisely to the flysch area between Salzach and Irrsee. The loss against Gnigl is a small area of moraine of the Würm , but especially from marl , cement marl series. The south-eastern part of the plateau of the elongated hill consists largely of crumbly sandstone from the Upper Cretaceous to the Paleocene .

history

An early historical settlement of the mountain is not known so far, due to its not very rugged shape the mountain offered little retreat. In contrast, the mountain plateau and the south side of the mountain were already used as meadow land in the early Middle Ages, which is reflected in the name Heuberg . The name first appears in a document in 1141 as ad Howberga , subsequently also as Haiberga .

The slopes of the mountain, especially in the north, still form a large forest area today, which used to be called St. Peter Holz and which is still partly owned by St. Peter Abbey in Salzburg.

The route of the 380 kV high-voltage ring , section St. Peter am Hart / OÖ – Tauern ( 380 kV Salzburg line ), is to lead over the Heuberg from the connection to the Salzach substation over the Gaisberg to the south, because of its importance as Local recreation area of ​​the city of Salzburg controversial project.
