history

Hirschfeld around 1898

The place was probably founded in the 12th century as part of the eastern settlement . However, exact dates about the first settlements are not available. Around 1428, 16 farming families were already cultivating the previously barren and swampy land. In 1470 a church was built for the first time, which was given a steeple in 1474 , but which collapsed in 1769 and also severely damaged the nave , so that a complete new building was necessary.

Hirschfeld belonged to the Liebenwerda district in the province of Brandenburg since 1816 and to the Bad Liebenwerda district in the GDR district of Cottbus from 1952 . The community has been in the Elbe-Elster district in Brandenburg since 1993
