The II. Division 1961/62 was the thirteenth season of the II. Division , which formed the second highest division in football in parts of Germany between 1949 and 1963. In the 1961/62 season there was a single-track II Division in west , south-west and south Germany . The 2nd Division was not introduced in northern Germany and West Berlin . Here the amateur league was the second highest division.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Wuppertaler SV were promoted to the Oberliga West. Duisburg SpV and SV Sodingen were relegated from the league . The VfL Benrath and SpVgg Erkenschwick had to descend into the Verbandsliga and were Arminia Bielefeld and Duisburg FV 08 replaced.

The SV Niederlahnstein and VfR Frankenthal rose in the Oberliga Southwest. The SV Phönix Ludwigshafen and Eintracht Trier descended from the Oberliga Südwest . The ASC Dudweiler and 1. FC Sobernheim had to dismount in the amateur league and were Phönix Bellheim and VfB Wissen replaced.

The KSV Hessen Kassel and TSG Ulm 1846 rose in the Oberliga Süd. FSV Frankfurt and SV 07 Waldhof were relegated from the league . The SV Wiesbaden , the SpVgg Bayreuth and the ASV Cham had to stay in the Amateurliga and were prepared by the SV Darmstadt 98 , the VfR Heilbronn and the ESV Ingolstadt replaced.

Ascent round south
The champions of the amateur leagues Bavaria and Hesse rose straight away. The champions of the amateur leagues in Baden-Württemberg played the third promoted player in a promotion round. The FC Hechingen as a master of amateur league Schwarzwald-Bodensee waived, but the SC moved to Schwenningen.
