When the Croatians settled the island, they found Romans , from whom the names of many places on Ist are still derived: Funestrala , Klunda , Mavrela , Skrivadica and Turtula . From 1850 onwards there was a great emigration, which reached its peak between 1905 and 1910. The main destination of the emigrants was America.
