Jan Hlaváč (born September 19, 1976 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who was last under contract at the HC Stadion Vrchlabí in the 2nd česká hokejová league .
Career
Jan Hlaváč began his career as an ice hockey player at HC Sparta Prague , for which he was active in the Czech Extra League for a total of six years from 1993 to 1999 . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1995 in the second round as a total of 28th player by the New York Islanders , for which he however never played. Instead, the attacker received a contract with their league rivals New York Rangers before the 1999/2000 season , for which he was on the ice for the following two seasons in the National Hockey League . The Rangers had received the Czech in summer 1999 for Marc Savard from the Calgary Flames , which Hlaváč had received from the Islanders a year earlier for Jörgen Jönsson . After another move with Kim Johnsson and Pavel Brendl to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Eric Lindros , he played for the Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes between 2001 and 2003 before the left-shooter returned to the Rangers for the 2003/04 season . Due to the NHL lockout in the following year, the striker moved to Europe, where he received a contract in his Czech homeland with his ex-club HC Sparta Prague.
After Hlaváč ran up for HC Servette Genève from the Swiss National League A in the 2005/06 season, he played again in Prague the following season and was Czech champion for the first time in his career . For the 2007-08 season , the winger returned to the NHL, where he played for the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Nashville Predators . From the 2008/09 season Hlaváč was under contract with Linköpings HC from the Swedish Elitserien , the seasons began in each case for tax reasons in the Czech Republic with Sparta Prague, the Bílí Tygři Liberec or the Rytíři Kladno . Between January 2013 and summer 2014, Hlaváč was under contract with Växjö Lakers HC , but was loaned to Rytíři Kladno again during this time. In the 2014/15 season he was then firmly under contract with the knights from Kladno, who were relegated to the 1st division in 2014.
Between summer 2015 and January 2016 he was without a club before he was signed by HC Sparta Prague . At the same time, he played on loan for HC Benátky nad Jizerou in the 1st division. After the 2016/17 season he did not get a new contract with Sparta and had to wait until February 2018 before he was signed by HC Stadion Vrchlabí from the third-class 2nd česká hokejová liga .
International
For the Czech Republic , Hlaváč took part in the U20 Junior World Championships in 1995 and 1996 , as well as the World Championships in 1999 , 2003 , 2005 and 2006 . In total, he was able to win four medals - including two golds.
