Location of Kößing in Bavaria

Koessing

Kößing is a church village in the northern Upper Palatinate and part of the city of Vohenstrauß . About 75 people live in the village.

Geographical location

The village is located on a plateau, about 4.3 km south of Vohenstrauss. To the west, the deeply cut Goldbach valley runs from north to south. The Goldbach flows into the Pfreimd about 700 m southwest of Kößing at the Goldbachschleife . South of Kößing lies the Pfreimd river valley, the north bank of which is formed by the Kößinger tendrils.

Surname

"Kößing" is a spurious -ing name , i. H. it does not indicate the German settlement. The name comes from the Slavic Kozina ('goat brook', koza goat); this was probably the name of the small stream that rises on the southern edge of Kößing. In this respect, the name Kößing indicates an originally Slavic settlement along the Pfreimd.

There is also documentary evidence of the Slavic settlement from the year 905. In this it was confirmed that King Ludwig gave the child a Hufe an der Luhe to an immo. The previous owner of this piece of land was a Slav named Gruonkin.

history

Kößing (also Közzinge, Kössing) was first mentioned in 1353. It was created as a clearing settlement in the 11th and 12th centuries.

In the Salbuch of 1562 and in the official description of 1596, Kößing was listed with 14 properties.

After the privilege of 1608, which was confirmed in 1610 and 1615, Kößing belonged to the Marktbann Moosbach and the lower court district of Treswitz.

In 1782 the place belonged to the parish of Böhmischbruck, in 1805 it belonged to the fourth quarter of the Pleystein nursing office .

At the beginning of the 19th century, Kößing had 17 properties, a shepherd's house, a forge and a St. Peter and Paul chapel. It belonged to the municipality and parish of Böhmischbruck as well as to the tax district Altentreswitz formed in 1808 . In addition to Altentreswitz, this included Böhmischbruck, Kößing, Grünhammer and Wastlmühle .

From 1808 to 1830, Kößing and Linglmühle formed the independent rural community Kößing. In 1830 this was incorporated into the municipality of Böhmischbruck, in 1972 Böhmischbruck again came to Vohenstrauß as part of the municipal reform .
