Location of Obernankau in Bavaria

Obernankau is a district of the town of Vohenstrauß and a district in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district in the northern Upper Palatinate .

Geographical location

The hamlet is located in the Upper Palatinate Forest, about 5 km southwest of Vohenstrauss and 700 m south of the A6 motorway . The Kaltenbaumbach rises about 600 m to the northeast and flows into the Pfreimd 1 km southeast of Obernankau. The deeply cut Pfreimdtal extends 800 m to the south in an east-west direction. The Pfreimd is dammed here to the Kainzmühlstausee .

history

In the 18th century Obernankau belonged to the Waldau lordship and had 9 properties and a shepherd's house. The place belonged to the parish Vohenstrauß and to the tax district Lerau formed in 1808 . In addition to Lerau itself, this included Kleßberg, Obernankau, Unternankau, Steinach, Wieselrieth and Linglmühle.

In 1809 Obernankau belonged to the Waldau patrimonial court , which was owned by the Barons of Lilien .

Obernankau was an independent municipality without any other districts, which was incorporated into Oberlind in 1938 .

With the municipality reform in 1972 Obernankau came into the municipality of Vohenstrauß.

Village cross and bell tower

Next to the wooden bell tower in Obernankau is a listed village cross in color with the crucified Jesus and the painful Mother of God . The wooden cross, originally from the 19th century, had to be renewed and was consecrated on July 21, 1999 by Pastor Franz Winkelmann and Father Georg Messer. The bell tower was also carefully restored in 1988 and is now equipped with an electric bell. While there used to be numerous such wooden bell towers in the Upper Palatinate, these have become rare today (e.g. still in Wieselrieth near Leuchtenberg , Lerau , Roggenstein , Lerau or Kaimling ).
