Coordinates: 51 ° 1 '47 "  N , 6 ° 8' 38"  E The Herb chapel is located in the Dremmen districtin the town of Heinsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia . It stands as a monument under monument protection .

location

The chapel is located in the Herb district in an undeveloped area of the village on the road leading to Uetterath and is comparable to a field chapel .

history

Very little is known about the history . The Herb house once stood near the chapel, a manor house surrounded by a pond , which in 1646 consisted of an upper house and a lower courtyard. The buildings were demolished in 1881/82. Since the Herb Chapel - also called Herber Chapel - was built around 1900, the spatial proximity to the Herb House has no connection with the construction of the chapel.

architecture

The building is a two-axis brick construction with a rounded apse . The masonry is structured on the outside and decorated with pilaster strips and a circumferential arched frieze. The arched entrance is located in the triangular gable . A roof turret , in which a small bell hangs, crowns the gable . Next to the door is a mission cross from 1861, which was built here in 1912. Inside the chapel a cross vault and a triumphal arch can be seen.

Furnishing

  • On the triangular gable is a bell in a roof turret.
  • In the chapel, the entrance door and the windows are equipped with stained glass .
  • Inside there is an altar and several figures of saints .

Others

  • The chapel is owned by the Aachen diocese, but is maintained and looked after by the Herb chapel association. This is financed exclusively through donations and membership fees.
  • In 2013, after the connection to the public drinking water network, the outdoor area could be redesigned with a beech hedge.
  • In 2014 the chapel was provided with a power connection. The chapel was then given exterior and interior lighting in 2015.
