history
In 1545 the church was given a tower of unknown age . In 1736 she was hit so badly by lightning that the bells in the tower melted. In 1786 the church was torn down except for the tower and a so-called barn church was built. Although the church was enlarged, there was not enough space. So in 1899/1900 a new building was built according to the building plans of Lambert von Fisenne from Gelsenkirchen . The solemn consecration took place on August 22, 1900 . On October 28, 1944, the tower was completely destroyed in a bomb attack and the church was badly damaged. The damage to the church had been repaired by mid-1949. The construction work was carried out under the direction of Wilhelm Andermahr from Wassenberg . In 1983 the chancel was rebuilt according to plans by Jakob Cüppers from Waldenrath. The altar consecration took place on May 1, 1983.
Together with other parishes, St. Nikolaus now forms the Community of Communities (GdG) Heinsberg-Waldfeucht in the Diocese of Aachen .
