history
During a visitation from Archbishop Philippus Krementz in 1889, he suggested that a new church be built. The St. Nicholas Building Association, founded in 1895, procured an inexpensive building plot . On June 10, 1900, the foundation stone for the plan drawn up by Anton Becker and Jakob Stumpf was laid. On August 26, 1901, the church was solemnly consecrated . In 1903 the old church was demolished except for the Gothic choir. In January 1945, German troops blew up the tower and destroyed the church. The church was rebuilt until 1950. The tower was only built in 1960 for financial reasons. On April 12, 1964, the new altar was consecrated.
Together with other parishes, St. Nikolaus now forms the Community of Communities (GdG) Heinsberg-Waldfeucht in the Diocese of Aachen .
