A chapel built in 1764 was expanded in 1873/74 and 1892. After the establishment of its own rectorate in 1954 and the resulting expansion of the area, there was no longer enough space in the chapel. According to the construction plans of architect Heinz Tillmanns from Erkelenz , it was decided to build a new church. The chapel was demolished on June 17, 1957. The solemn consecration of the new church was on August 30, 1959.
