Club history

Logo of ZKL Brno

In 1953 an army sports club called Rudá hvězda (short RH, German Red Star ) Brno was founded in Brno. In the first season the team fought for the title, which ultimately went to Sparta Prague thanks to the better goal difference . In the next twelve game years Brno won eleven championships, only in the 1958/59 season SONP Kladno secured the title. In 1962, the army sports club became a civilian club, which took on the name of the local tractor factory Zbrojovka Brno as TJ ZKL Brno.

Kometa logo (1996–2012)

After the last championship won in 1966, the team only belonged to the midfield of the 1st division. 1980 rose Zetor Brno, as the club was called after a name change of the combine, in the second division. As a result, Zetor, later HC Královopolská Brno, from 1994 HC Kometa Brno, shuttled between the highest and second highest division. In the 2001/02 season, the club finished last in the first division (second highest division), which for the first time resulted in relegation and third division in the club's history. In 2003 Kometa sold the third division license to Vyškov and bought the second division license from HC Senators Rosice and has been second class again since then. In 2009 the club bought the Extraliga license of HC Znojemští Orli and thus rose to the first division.

In 2017 the club was able to celebrate the twelfth championship title in the club's history, after 51 years without winning the title.
