La Ferte-Vidame is a French commune of 700 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Eure-et-Loir in the region Center-Val de Loire . It belongs to the Arrondissement Dreux and the canton Saint-Lubin-des-Joncherets . The municipality lies on the edge of the Perche Regional Nature Park .

The Citroën test track has been in the immediate vicinity of the town since 1934.

etymology

The name of the place comes from the fact that it was an estate owned by the Vidame de Chartres in the Middle Ages . The most famous of these vidames was the Duke of Saint-Simon.

The original name of the place was La Ferté-Arnaud or La Ferté-Ernaud.
