history
In 1058 Albert Ribaud, Lord of the Thymerais stood up against Duke Wilhelm II of Normandy . Wilhelm seized the place Thimert and installed a governor there. The following year, King Henry I of France captured the castle and had it torn down. With the ruins of this castle, Gaston (or Gazon), Albert's brother, built a new castle in a clearing some distance away and named it Chastel-neuf. The place of the same name was formed around the castle and soon became the center of the Thymerais. In 1169 this castle was sacked by King Henry I of England , and later by King Henry II of England a second time, who also had the fortress burned down. In 1189 Hugues III built du Châtel, Seigneur du Thymerais open it up one more time.
