The women's long jump at the European Athletics Championships in 1966 was held on September 2 and 3, 1966 in Budapest's Népstadion .
The European champion was Irena Kirszenstein from Poland, who came second in 1964 and was also European champion over 200 meters and with the 4 x 100 meter relay as well as vice European champion over 100 meters . She won ahead of the Bulgarian Diana Jorgowa . Bronze went to the West German European Championship third in 1962 in the pentathlon Helga Hoffmann .

Record improvements
European champion Irena Kirszenstein improved the existing EM record in the final on September 3rd by seventeen centimeters to 6.55 m.
qualification
September 2, 1966, 4:25 p.m.
The 23 participants took part in a joint qualification round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 6.05 m. Thirteen athletes surpassed this mark (highlighted in light blue) and thus won the right to participate in the finals on the following day. One of them, the Norwegian Berit Berthelsen, did not make it to the final.
