The men's 50 km walk at the 2006 European Athletics Championships took place on August 10, 2006 in the streets of Gothenburg .
The French Yohann Diniz became European champion . The second place went to the Spanish Vice World Champion in 1997 and 2001 and European Championship -Third of 2002 Jesús Ángel García . Bronze went to the Russian Yuri Andronow .

Note:
Actually, the previously existing practice of not setting records in marathon running and street walking due to the different track conditions with the exception of championship records has not been used since 2003. However, because of the route, this did not apply to Nischegorodov's performance. The official world record was Robert Korzeniowski with 3:36:03 hours on 27 August 2003 at the world championships in Paris situated.
The existing EM record was not set at these European championships and was not improved.

There was no preliminary round, all 28 walkers went to the final together.

The Norwegian Trond Nymark set a fast pace and the field quickly fell apart. The Norwegian held the lead until a few kilometers from the finish, but was then overtaken one after the other by the three later medal winners. With his victory, Yohann Diniz secured the first ever gold medal for a French walker.
