The men's hammer throw at the 2012 European Athletics Championships was held on June 28 and 30, 2012 in the Olympic Stadium in the Finnish capital Helsinki .

European champion was the Hungarian vice world champion in 2011 and European championship third in 2010, Krisztián Pars . He won before the Russian World Cup third in 2009 Alexei Sagorny . Bronze went to the Polish Olympic champion in 2000 , world champion from 2001 , World Cup third out of 205 and vice world champion from 2009 Szymon Ziółkowski .

31 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 77.50 m. Only one athlete exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the eleven next-placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). In the end, 72.85 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
