The title of Royal Bavarian Court Supplier was awarded by the Bavarian Kings and Prince Regent Luitpold . With the acquisition of the title, the purveyors to the court had the honor of bearing the royal coat of arms and continuously supplying members of the royal family. Nowadays these companies claim to offer "products that would also find favor with the king".

The Wittelsbach sideline of the dukes in Bavaria also awarded the title of purveyor to the court to shops or companies of their choice. The companies were often both royal and ducal Bavarian purveyors to the court and used this double honor for advertising.
