List of members of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies (2018-2023)
This list provides an overview of all members of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies for the term of office that followed the 2018 Chamber election and which is expected to end in 2023.
Overview
The country is divided into four electoral districts, each of which had several seats available and the number of which depends on the size of the population. Of the ten parties that ran for election, seven won seats. They are distributed across the electoral districts as follows:
Political party | center | east | north | south | total |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
CSV | 7th | 3 | 4th | 7th | 21st |
DP | 5 | 2 | 2 | 3 | 12 |
LSAP | 2 | 1 | 1 | 6th | 10 |
The green | 4th | 1 | 1 | 3 | 9 |
ADR | 1 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 4th |
The left | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 2 |
Pirate party | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 2 |
The regular term of office lasts five years and is therefore expected to end in 2023.
Current MPs
This list includes the 59 current Chamber of Deputies, as of January 1, 2020 one seat is vacant. Due to the incompatibility of a parliamentary mandate with a seat in the government, only 45 of the elected MPs were sworn in at the constituent session on October 30, 2018, but not those who were able to win a seat as cabinet members. After the new government had taken office on December 5, followed by Guy Arendt and Fernand Etgen that no longer belonged to the Cabinet, which substitutes to switch the remaining 13 and another two who had resigned their seats again in the government .
In the course of the replacement procedure, another incompatibility criterion came into play, due to which close relatives are not allowed to be members of the chamber at the same time. Affected were the brothers Henri and Martin Kox, two Greens who had run for candidates in different districts, each came first and then moved up. Finally, Martin, the older of the two, waived in favor of Henri, who had held a mandate since 2004. If no agreement had been reached, the lot would have been decided.
The “Function” column shows the chairmen of the parliamentary groups. They only exist with the five larger parties, not with the left and the pirates, which have not reached a group strength. Also registered are the members of the parliamentary presidium, called "office". It consists of the President of Parliament, his three deputies and nine other members.

Elected, mandate not accepted
Of the 15 elected members who were not sworn in as incumbent members of the government at the constituent meeting on October 30, 2018, 13 later declared that they would waive their seats in the Chamber. 12 of them had been appointed to the new cabinet , only Nicolas Schmit did not accept the mandate, as he intended to run for a seat in the European elections in May 2019 . He was a member of the EU Parliament since July 2019 . The 13 successors took up their mandate on December 6, 2018, as did Guy Arendt and Fernand Etgen, who had left the government.
