Location of Mönninghausen in the city of Geseke

Mönninghausen is a 860 people inhabit, 6.74 km² large village which since the local government reform in 1975 the city Geseke in the district of Soest , North Rhine-Westphalia , is one. The population density is 128 inhabitants / km². The St. Vitus Church is a building that defines the townscape .

Place name

At the time of the first mention the place is called 1120 "Munichuson". The variants “Monnickhusen” (1184), “Munckehosen” (1277), “Monikehusen” (1293), “Munechusen” (1297) and “Munchusen” (1308–1510) have been handed down from the Middle Ages. In the early modern period , 1543 was then referred to as “Monninghaußen” and 1577 as “Mönninckhausen”. This means that the place originally belongs to the "-hausen" places . The first part of the name is the Old Saxon word munik , Middle High German mönek with the meaning of the New High German monk . Thus, the surname as "at the monk houses" can be interpreted and on the local Villikationshaupthof the monastery Corvey be returned. It is debated whether this name represents the renaming of an older place.

geography

Geographical location

Mönninghausen lies in the transition from the lip lowlands to the Hellweg area . According to the division most commonly used today in the handbook of the natural spatial structure of Germany , the north of the place is in subunit 540.20 Obere Lippetalung , which is in subunit 540.2 Ostmünsterländer Sande , main unit 540 Ostmünsterland and main unit group 54 Westphalian Bay . The south of the village is therefore part of the sub-unit 542.13 Geseker Unterbörde , which belongs to the sub-unit 542.1 Unterer Hellweg , the main unit 542 Hellwegbörden and the main unit group 54 Westphalian Bay. The border runs roughly at the level of the memorial by the church.

Local area

Fields and settlement of the village cover an area of 6.74 km² with a north-south extension of 2.7 km and a west-east extension of 3.4 km. They are at a height of 82 to 95.1 m above sea level . The height of the churchyard is given as 84.8 m above sea level.

In the southern edge of the will Hellweg space primarily as farmland used, while in the north with wet meadows the grassland predominates and by rows of trees and single trees, mostly poplars and willows , a parkland is formed. The floods that used to be frequent have become rarer there thanks to drainage measures in the 19th and 20th centuries. Some peasant forests have been preserved from the oak forests in the north and east of the local area . Up to the middle of the 19th century, the plague economy also shaped the landscape. The settlement itself forms a loosened clustered village in the transition to the scattered settlement of the Münsterland.

Waters

The Störmeder Bach trains Störmede coming first the border between Bönninghausen and the core city Geseke before it marks the eastern border Mönning Stockhausen. After the confluence with the Geseker Bach shortly before the Brandenbaumer Mühle, it leaves Mönninghausen to flow into the Lippe at Garfeln .

So-called loam pits were created for the extraction of building earth , which often filled with water after this use. B. found a second use as an extinguishing water pond . The Mönninghauser village pond is of this origin and therefore bears the name Lehmkuhle . The preservation of the artificial body of water requires maintenance, which is provided by a local community.

A spring called Spring with its spring pond Springlake feeds several preserved Röthekuhlen in the northern part of the settlement , called "rhombus" in the Low German local dialect. The spring and spring pond were designed as a washing area at the end of the 19th century and restored in this form in 1990.

Starting in the east, Mönninghausen borders in a clockwise direction on the core town of Geseke , the Gesek districts of Bönninghausen and Ehringhausen , as well as the Lippstadt districts of Hörste with Öchtringhausen and Garfeln . The places all belong to the Soest district . The Salzkotten district of Verlar in the Paderborn district is only separated from Mönninghausen by a narrow strip of land.

geology

In the area of the Hellweg area and lip lowlands , limestone was formed as sediment in seas in the Cretaceous period . In the Ice Age , ground moraines formed under glaciers and inland ice , which appear here as boulder clay and gravel above the rocks mentioned . The granite or gneiss boulders that occur here also go back to this.

The wind then deposited loess and sand in various places in the Hellweg area . The southern part of the Mönninghauser soils belongs to the fertile Hellwegbörde, where the brown earth is composed differently in places of sand, sand loess , weathered loam of limestone gravel and boulder clay . In Mönninghausen, loess and sand loess predominate here.

In the lip lowland , to which the northern part of the village belongs, sand and gravel were brought in from the Senne through the lip . Alluvial deposits also occurred in the area of rivers and streams .

climate

Like the Westphalian Bight, Mönninghausen belongs to the oceanic climatic area of north-west Germany , to which it owes low temperature differences and mild winters. However, continental influences are already at work . The temperature in summer is higher and the nights are cooler than in closer proximity to the coast. However, the surrounding low mountain ranges are also involved in reducing the amount of precipitation and the higher number of sunny days .

The mean annual rainfall is 801 mm, the mean annual temperature is 9.3 ° C.

history

The first documentary mentions of the place go back to the year 1120 as "curtis Munichuson", a main courtyard of the Corvey monastery . From 1843 Mönninghausen formed the Störmede office with other places in the area .

Incorporation

Mayor since the municipal reorganization
1975-1989 Franz Ludwigt

since 2012 Irene Struwe-Pieper

On January 1, 1975 Mönninghausen was incorporated into Geseke due to the Münster / Hamm Act of July 26, 1974 .

The Störmede office was dissolved during the local reorganization , as the cities and municipalities are now directly subordinate to the districts. Mönninghausen is a district of Geseke and the city council elected by the citizens elects mayor for the districts . The city of Geseke is the legal successor to the Störmede office and the Mönninghausen community.

The Vitsamt was given to the Lords of Hörde . The five-spoke Hörder wheel refers to this.
