According to archaeological finds, the area of Roigheim was already settled in the Stone Age. At the time of the Romans around 150 there was a settlement in the Roigheim area. In 1110 Roigheim was first mentioned as Rohinkheim. During the era of the tribal duchies, the place was in the Duchy of Franconia . In the 13th century it was owned by the Lords of Dürn , from whom it first went to Hohenlohe in 1287 . In 1445 it was sold to the Electoral Palatinate and finally captured by Württemberg in the Landshut War of Succession in 1504 . The monasteries Amorbach and Seligental as well as the lords of Adelsheim , Tumminge von Domeneck and von Berlichingen owned goods in the village . On May 10, 1719, the place was largely destroyed by a devastating fire. In 1869 the place was connected to the railway. badges and flags

Roigheim's coat of arms

The blazon of the Roigheim coat of arms reads: In silver, a continuous red ashlar wall with an open gate and a red pinnacle tower. The flag of the municipality is red and white.

A stain seal from 1796 shows a coat of arms with a split shield, in front the three Württemberg stag poles , behind an upright animal, perhaps a horse . The coat of arms was in the nature of a family coat of arms with helmet , helmet covers and crest provided.

In the 19th century, a pre-form of today's coat of arms appeared for the first time. It was attached to the bridge over the Seckach, built in 1877 (destroyed in 1945) and has been proven on seals since 1903. The origin of the coat of arms is unknown, as Roigheim was never fortified with walls and a tower. The founder of the Roigheim paper mill, Jobst Rödter, had a watermark with the Ravensburger double tower in 1683 , which is somewhat similar to today's Roigheim coat of arms. In 1938, at the suggestion of the Württemberg archives department, the current shape of the coat of arms was determined, omitting the deciduous trees that had previously protruded over the wall. The coat of arms and flag were awarded to the community on November 17, 1952 by the provisional government of Baden-Württemberg.

Culture and sights

Buildings

The Protestant parish church from 1902 was built according to plans by Heinrich Dolmetsch using the tower and choir of a late Gothic predecessor building from 1497. Around the church there are picturesque rural properties built on the slope of the Kirchberg, which date back to the 16th century. The baroque parsonage in Hauptstrasse dates from 1722. There is a war memorial and a striking rural property from 1908 near the new town hall. As there was a major fire in the village in 1719, only a few older half-timbered buildings have survived receive. The town center is rather characterized by buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, which, however, mostly have a very strong need for renovation.
