MOWOS
The Munich Olympic Walk of Stars ( MOWOS ) is an approx. 400 meter long walkway on Willi-Daume-Platz , on the north bank of the Olympic lake in the Munich Olympic Park . Similar to the Walk of Fame in front of the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles and the Walk of Fame Europe in Rotterdam , personalities from show and sport immortalize themselves with their handprints and personal messages on cement slabs that are embedded in the sidewalk.
General
Since 2003 up to now (as of 2017) over 80 cement slabs with a size of 90 × 90 cm have been embedded, which are protected against the weather and contamination after the drying process with a special varnish. The idea for this action comes from the director and film producer Alexander Ganser.
For inclusion in the Walk of Stars personalities have rendered outstanding services to the Olympic Park and earned in from sports, music and entertainment Munich Olympic Stadium , the Olympic Hall , the Olympic swimming pool or in the Olympic Ice Sport Center celebrated successes. A committee selects the personality from proposals. Music groups, teams and event representatives can also be selected.
The Walk of Stars was ceremoniously opened on May 28, 2003 with the first cement board with the handprint of pop singer Howard Carpendale .
