The HK MP7 is a submachine gun developed by the German company Heckler & Koch .
Requirement profile
The MP7 was to be used to equip units that are not usually involved in infantry fighting. These are, for example, utilities, paramedics, (air) vehicle crews or artillerymen . A decisive factor in the development of this weapon was the knowledge that, especially in the event of an asymmetrical conflict , troops at the rear can also be ambushed and thus involved in close-range battles. Due to the widespread use of military protective vests , these troop units then require the penetration power of an assault rifle , but not its comparatively long range. For this application, a weapon was required for the Bundeswehr that combines the penetration power of an assault rifle with the compactness and low mass of a submachine gun . The MP7 was developed with this in mind. It meets the requirements of the NATO PANEL V for a "personal defense weapon" (PDW, Personal Defense Weapon ) .
technology
The MP7 combines the advantages of several weapon types. It combines the weight and handling of a normal submachine gun with the cadence and penetration of an assault rifle. This is achieved by a new small-caliber cartridge in caliber 4.6 × 30 mm , which is supposed to guarantee high penetration with low recoil . The ammunition fired with the MP7 penetrates the CRISAT protection (1.6 mm titanium combined with 20 layers of Kevlar ) at a distance of 200 meters and thus exceeds the NATO requirements by four times. With a length of 42 centimeters (shoulder rest not extended) and the low weight due to the use of plastics, the weapon is also suitable for one-handed firing and, to a certain extent, also for concealed carrying.
Three different magazine sizes have been developed for the MP7 : a magazine with 20, one with 30 and one with 40 cartridges. The cadence of the weapon is around 950 rounds per minute. Semi-automatic models are also offered. The through-loading, and Feuerwahl- slide catch lever ( bolt release ) and the magazine catch are ambidextrous use. In addition, this weapon has a retractable shoulder stock and can be equipped versatile, for example with a telescopic sight , a reflex sight , a silencer or a Tactical Light .
The A2 version differs from the A1 in that it has a hand guard that is equipped with three Picatinny rails (MIL-STD-1913) for mounting accessories .
